Contribute an Article

Got an itch to write? Interested in contributing something for the betterment of the community here? We’d love to have you!

We’ll pay you up to $15 if we publish your post! Please read all of the following before emailing us!

What We’re Looking For:

We look for the following things in contributions and guest posts:

  • Expertise – It really helps if you know what you’re talking about! Seriously.
  • Writing for the Web – This isn’t your College Paper, Seminary Thesis, or Moleskine Notebook; writing on the web is an art form and is best when it’s not too verbose, and makes use of lists and headings to break up the text.
  • How-Tos for Popular Apps & Web Services & Products – It’s best if your how-to is for an app and/or web service and/or product that is either reasonably popular or should be reasonably popular. We generally avoid anything which is very niche.
  • Practical Strategy – At the end of the day if we don’t do anything with what we’ve learned and know we’re pretty much useless.
  • Constructive Commentary with Excellence – This might be the most generic but we know that a number of you have some strong opinions about Web Technology and it’s practice. If you’re an amazing writer and you’ve got that edge, we’d love to hear from you.

Before You Email Us, Please Understand:

  • The Senior Editors have the final say on the publication’s quality and readiness; we decide if and when it goes live.
  • Your article must be completely finished, with images (see Posting Guidelines), when you go to submit it.
  • Your article is completely original and not published anywhere else.
  • Your article must have correct citation on all copy, content, and media.
  • Your article may be edited and/or revised to match the tone and culture of the site.
  • You grant a license to The 8BIT Network to be the exclusive publisher of the article online. You may republish extracts online, such as your own blog, however the full article in its entirety should not appear anywhere else. You may, however, republish the article offline – e.g. sell it to a magazine or contribute it to a book.

Posting Guidelines:

  • This is quality more than quantity. We are very serious about this. Best-in-breed, value, and impact.
  • The post must be at least 750 – 1,000 words in length; more than this is not necessarily better but the post must be professional and “complete.”
  • The post must have at least 1 image (for the thumbnail). Most posts will have considerably more, especially for reviews of products/apps/web services. To include images please make sure they are cropped well and then put a direct link to the image right in the post via a hyperlink; the editor shall upload the final image for publishing.
  • You may not include any affiliate marketing links or obvious self-promotional content.
  • Please make sure your author profile is complete. You may include links in your bio.

Getting Paid:

  • We pay up to $15 per post depending on our current needs in our editorial calendar.
  • You must have a valid and working Paypal Account.
  • Payment is sent within the first week of the month after your article is published.
  • Ultimately, it is up to the Editors to land on a final payout value based on length, quality, and content. We will notify authors of exact payout prior to publishing.

Ready? Here are the Next Steps:

    • Send an email to info [at] 8BIT.io with your post and/or topic(s) idea; general outlines are sufficient.
    • We’ll have a conversation. If we move forward we will grant you “Contributor” status so that you may draft out your post and then hit “Submit” to queue it for review.
    • We’ll queue and publish it according to our Editorial Calendar and then you’ll be notified when it publishes!

      Thanks!
